60 Minute SEO
Your an attorney with a website, but no SEO. I know your busy; but bill yourself for 60 minutes time and do some basic SEO. Don’t worry; I’ll walk you through it.
Step 1. Set up a free profile at HG.org. They get picked up by search engines, especially if you get a paid listing and submit articles.
Step 2. Create a Google local and Yahoo local listing. Google local listings come up on top of regular organic search results, and listings are free.
Step 3. Create a free profile on Justia.com. These profiles are also used by cornell.edu’s legal directory.
Step 4. Add extra content to your website. Add a “Frequently Asked Questions” page, a page featuring results or awards you’ve won or settled for your clients, or a page
Step 5. Submit your website to directories. Do a search on google.com for “my area of practice” directory. I.e., a search for a “divorce directory” might yield a result like womensdivorces.com. Also consider local directories for your metro area. Many directories allow you to add your listing for free or for less than $100/yr. Be sure to add your website and areas of practice.
Got an hour per week?
Start a blog. Post to it once a week, and ask other lawyers who have blogs to add you to their blogroll.
Sign up on LawGuru.com. While it won’t help much with SEO, it does provide pre-qualified leads specific to your state.
While the above mentioned steps may not get you to the top of search engines, it will increase your visibility considerably, especially if your area of practice is uncommon or you are located in a small city. 70% of American adults are online for email and basic informational searches; if you don’t plan to retire soon, you should plan to make yourself seen on the internet.
